Welcome to the McFarland Science Channel Today we are going to test the theory that everyone's been questioning since: Ross Chastain Took his car into the wall at Martinsville and slingshotted on the competition. and today we have none other than Ross Chastain himself AKA Dr Passemol.

So we gave him his Doctorate this morning. He's officially on the science team today and as you can see, we have this: Crown Vic rigged up with dumpster Caster Wheels Come check you. zoom in on these things. Six by two by two.

we're talking dual. These are dually Caster wheels. You know we want to test this out, but how could we do it That we're awesome. So how do you feel about this experiment? Not good I Really I Didn't feel good when I did it and I don't feel good about now.

Did you did you weld these or did someone no proper doctorate? we actually have to welcome. We had Dr weldom literally we had Dr William all weld them. Okay, that's good. So Dr cleat I don't think is the right my wheels, my welds don't hold the best.

So we had to bring in a professional I bought the wheels. You bought them. Well, that's so nice of you. Yeah, and you're about to destroy him, you know I wanted to bring out Ross because before I risked my life to try this I need some top tips? What did you do in Martinsville That got you around that term I did not put this much effort or focus into it.

So let's just start there. Dr Cleave I've hit the wall here by the way. I've raced here a long time ago and I've hit the wall all the way around this place. Yeah, not like I did at Martinsville but several different incidents they hurt.

Did you look at the cracks in the wall first? Yeah, so that's something we're gonna have to think about. I mean hold on. put your fist next to the wheel down. It has small hands.

Okay, yeah, maybe your hands better. I'm thinking I'm gonna be going so fast that I'm just gonna Glide right? I Don't think it'll feel very Glide So in Martinsville I mean did you try and steer it softly into the wall? or did you just fully I did I I No I I Tried to get on the wall as soon as possible. so I picked a spot off turn two and just aim for it I Just aimed as quickly as I could at the end of the straightaway and I still missed about a few inches where I wanted to hit. Are you slamming? Pretty good pretty early.

so like yeah, when you're coming down the front stretch when you start your lap, man it's it's gonna hurt I Hope you I hope you realize that like but your doctorate, you're ready. Oh man, you've went to school class. I Feel like with the advice you just laid out, there's not a single thing that could go wrong. How many race car drivers have ever told you to hit the wall early and often never enough time.

Gotta re-emit the wheel Honestly I feel like you're revolutionizing the sport, you know? and I I didn't want to tell you this till today because I didn't want you to knock out but we we already have a patent pending on this. Oh okay I think we'll let you have this one. so I know you're probably gonna hook this up your actual NASCAR this year. not gonna happen.

I think we'll win in court though if I want to go back and get it? No, no really good lawyers. We were 190 million just trying to get it fully developed. Gotcha 90 million dollars invested on this patent? Yeah after it right now is just making me question this whole video. Man, Well, there's a lot of things to question here.

Okay, taking a look at the structure. guys. come on down in here. We got a triangulation here.

so not only is this one bar, but if you look closely, there's two bars holding this Caster wheel in and these are heavy duty rated for over 2 000 pounds each now Crown Vic weighs roughly 3 500 pounds. You multiply that by the centrifugal force that I'll be facing when I hit this turn and the weight of the Crown Vic will equal Dr spray them all more than what it weighs sitting still exactly. These are duels. Yeah, he's not wrong.

The dual wheel I mean we got. What about this? I mean it's gonna drag. it's gonna do some stuff I Think the way we should look at this hypotenuse is we should run a lap no wall contact, see what the thing can do, and then we run a lap full wall contact and see if it beats the time. And if it does, then we'll probably get our patent.

But if it doesn't actually work then they're probably going to deny our power can have it here. Then we'll give it. Then we'll hand the patent over to Ross and just take the 190 million dollar loss in the future. Are you Are you gonna make? uh, are you going to make a rule against wall riding if this does work? only if you come to one of our races, But if you're not here, then it's okay.

that's the big, you know. NASCAR Now they're trying to figure it out. You might set the bar if you set a rule or you don't. Well, I mean because of our patent, they probably can't make a rule anymore about it.

Do that for your favorite. It's just the legalities keep the wall rides alive. This looks pretty bad. Maybe for the first test, we should go to the other side and see if that's what we see.

All right. Well, we're gonna cut the camera off. We're gonna take a lap around the freedom Factory just kind of eyeball the wall and then we're gonna go ahead and do this thing. I Guess when I'm getting towards the turn I should try to turn into it and softly lay the car into the wall versus just no, no early, get on it early.

go closer. come on. only the front one's hitting. Dr Pass them all with speed.

it'll fix it. Yeah, that felt pretty good. closer. Oh dude, it's perfect.

This one's still spinning. this thing got eight bag nine minutes. Oh brother, no resistance oh my. God after Consulting Dr pass them all some more, you know he's the only one who's done this so we can't really go with anyone else's word he's saying to try this side first.

So guess I'm just gonna put my suit on and just come in here hot. Well I'll set the normal lap time first, set the lap time, and then if we damage the car, we won't know it'll ever do so. we gotta set the lap time and then I'll try doing it with one wall ride per lap and then we'll take it all the way up to two wall rides per lap. If we can get there, that ain't going anywhere.

There you go. Perfect! I Don't think it's going anywhere Dr Cleat are you ready I Was born ready for this. All right. let's do this thing: 25 20 25 Good good.

Just getting there 98 1998 How do you feel about his performance so far? Mediocre at best. He's got his own, uh, way around the track. Yeah yeah, it's different. 1994.

Turn four: What? There's a lot of dirt on the track and so I'm understeering. Pretty bad. honestly. I'm getting a little nervous looking at that wall.

It's pretty scary. You gotta find a spot. Get in position boys. I'm going for us all right there.

I'm only going for one wall ride so if it makes it out of this turn I'm gonna try and complete the lap and we'll see how much time it picks up. Here goes nothing. Doctors. Oh scary.

I Feel like you guys should stand back a little bit and a little further back. All right here we go. I'm nervous, terrified. All right here we go.

Honestly, it was so scary that like I just I tried to ease it on and then once I slammed on I was like all right. but it was. It was insane. Yeah.

I mean you can see it here? Yeah Doctor Pasum. All said get on at the red thing I was probably 10 feet so our centrifugal impact was just much higher. Once you're on the wall though, it's okay. It felt good, but it was just really scary inside the car.

I mean 10 out of 10 would not do if I was in a half million dollar NASCAR You know what I mean agreed. They told me that too. Don't do that again I think that's a one-and-done situation for any driver. You know what? I mean use it in emergency Zone which you had to do Dr weldom all I'm rides those casters bro.

I mean those were two thousand pound each. All right. Well uh. all in all, guys, today is a big day.
