Today we are in Ozark Arkansas for our first ever airplane race flying competition where I'll be flying our carbon Cub around a course where you have to take off, land on a Runway over on the other side of this Ridge Land do a 180 take back off as fast as you can and then fly back this direction once you clear that Ridge there's another Runway over there, you got to land on that one.

do another 180 take back off, land on this original Runway that's right behind us. There's two pylons at the end of this. Runway You got to clear them and then land as short as you can. Then the judges take however many seconds it took you to complete that course plus however many feet it took you to land from the pylons to where your airplane stops.

They combine how many seconds it was, how many feet it was and then assess you any penalties like flying in between the pylons and that's how you get a score. Today we're competing in a light sport class in our Carbon. Cub We've been training for this. We've been getting ready Today we got practice.

The competition is tomorrow. We get two shots at it today. two shots at it tomorrow. Let's see how we do.

which is where you use the side of the airplane to actually aerodynamically slow down the plane. So if you see me for lack of better words, drifting, that is what I am doing I'm trying to slip the plane to aerodynamically make it slower I can get the shorter I Can land, but not too slow. obviously right. There's a balance there right there I Want you guys to know that's what you're seeing when the planes are crooked? we're slipping it.

so keep in mind I Gotta clear those pylons and then land as short as I can right here. Okay, and then they measure that distance. Also, the only other thing I got to worry about is on the first landing there is a Zone there's a 200 foot zone, two white stripes I gotta land in between those. oh maybe just look at her Stars and Stripes All right Cletus you can line up, wait.

Oh my gosh Traveler Driftwoods a great practice run I Feel like that's great practice on boys I'm fired up I'm fired up and I felt really comfortable I didn't feel like I was pushing it crazy. All right good job Cub Good job baby! Okay guys What? I'm thinking on the second round is we're gonna fly in a little further on drift I Don't know at least I know where my throttle points are I think I can go a little further on my throttle points so we're gonna. We're gonna experiment with that. We're gonna try and go a little further here at line up and wait you know, like under throttle because I feel like the slips like I got the slowing down that I needed to do done early with the slips.

So and I'm not slipping it hard I mean any of these things sideways and it's when you're that high energy. It's no big deal, but uh, and I think we can make up some decent time. but this Landing I'm really happy that Landing but the shorter this Landing is the better. 60 feet is a minute, you know compared to the time.

So getting the feet as minimal as possible, that's that's ideal for this deal on that last. Landing Okay here we go. Line up for round two. All right.

Our second and final practice run of the day Cletus is ready to rip. Flag is up, The boy is fast on the tree and the Cub is flying. Yeah baby, yeah baby. peel up, stay low.

Okay, we went all the way to that yellow plane. Now we're gonna go towards our pit spot. Um oh that's money. Almost a little too early so we gotta go down here so we have enough room to take back off off.

Let's go! Cub Oh this is so fun! Yeah baby! Rookie of the Year baby oh here she comes Full Throttle pin she sounds great. oh God I Love it. Yeah, all right I got the other Runway and slip. look at how much that thing sheds speed.

All right. Okay, we're slowed down a little faster on this one than I wanted to be. Yeah, way too fast. That killed us Eddie Well, that killed us.

Okay, so we need to get off the throttle a little sooner there. It's only a 10 point penalty if you break those pylons. Part of me wonders if he's breaking them on purpose and this is our tree. This is our cutoff point we're talking about.

You eat which I like that one a lot. That one seems like a smart one for us. Nice and slow here, trying to make our best short Landing Nice and slow. Attractive.

Good job cleaning them Wings Sam They were flying them babies were gliding. We got our plane. we got a time of 170 seconds and 173 seconds. so we're actually slightly faster on the second one, but 34 feet Less on the second one that helped us for a ton I mean that's the landing is huge.

The biggest thing for a 571, which right now is the number one score in the class. only 500 I Don't want to, uh, get too fired up about it because I don't want like the I don't want to get ahead of ourselves right now though. we are number one in our class I might slightly be ahead of ourselves already I Don't feel like we pushed it too hard I Don't think I want to go much more than that, but there's definitely some time on the board. Yeah, most of the reasons luckily we're number one in the white sport class.

It's the biggest class, but I I would say brother, you were flying, you were flying it racing team out here Sam What do you think about it I think we have a very few words I Don't think fantastic I'm telling you what?
