Seems like regular maintenance on this puppy require swapping a rod or 8. Mullet's going to need an engine that can hold more power sooner than later!

Hey guys, we kind of made this video in a hurry. We were trying to get ready for our annual christmas tree drag race. World championship mullet was a little hurt as you'll see, but we got him patched up and he's running better than ever all right.

We got mullet, checking it out after our recent track day here, where we thought we lifted a head, but compression numbers came back. One was a little low came back at 160 and that was cylinder number four. So we did a compression test and leaked down test. Here are the numbers, as you can see? 175.

182. 187. You got 186. 179.

182. 160.. However, this cylinder had the best leak down on it, five percent. So i really felt like we did more damage than that, because it takes a lot to lift a six-volt head.

Usually, if you have steel rods and you're lifting a six bolt head, you're gon na have some damage behind it. It's not just gon na be a head gasket, so went ahead and dropped the oil pan just to check for damage. We do have some damage i'll, get a light here, yeah that guy right there not too happy a little bit too much freedom horse torques. However, you want to call it we're gon na hone it out clean.

The cylinder got a box of pistons from last time. We did this, fortunately, so we're gon na. You know just slap a piston in there new new rod and see where we go. It's actually pretty amazing: it didn't just bend the rod it twisted it.

Sam just brought us the magical piece here: good old, dingleberry home there. It is right there in person all right so number four piston is out. You can see a little bit of damage right. There, but it doesn't look like anything.

A hoon can't take care of this one's got a good twist in it all right. We got our hole all cleaned up. We still see some markings but can't catch it with your fingernail. So it's not very big.

Got a nice new crosshatch in there and we are getting ready to put the new piston and rod in here, but i'd like to weigh them and make sure they're very close the same, because obviously this is the most unprofessional. We could do it right here. So we just want to make sure that they're going to weigh the same. So we don't have an imbalance in our rotating assembly.

All right. We got the new piston in there. Definitely not looking as good as the other ones, but a little less bent. So it's gon na work got a fresh rod in this puppy.

Let's see if it's ready for some christmas tree racing. First fire up, it's got fuel pressure. Some oil pressure sounds solid, dude we're back in action. Let's go bullet alright baby! I got ta put my tree up, so oh car's, going pretty straight.

We just added three clicks of rebound in it tightened it up in the rear, make another 60 foot hit. It feels good. He might stay in. It didn't like that, rebound all right.
Well, we're gon na go ahead and pull some of that rebound back out. It's a little too tight. You want to go. You want to go five hour rebound okay, let's see what that does.

I mean i think where it was at originally was pretty good yeah. I think so i think that might be a little too loose yeah rock's kind of hard to judge right now. The groove is terrible, but outside the groove is really sticky. So it's kind of a guessing game, not really knowing how the car is going to react to this crack.

Yet i think where we had the rebound was pretty good, but he wanted to go tighter and try it tighter and it's fun. And now we know that car doesn't like to be tight at all all right. What's that slip 119. 120 with an eight foot with an eight get in there all right we're out here with ruby, we've got kevin doing the tuning thing.

We've got this nice external trigger wheel from innovative west and we're knocking some magnets out of that cause. We got the 12 magnet instead of the four yeah that doesn't work with the 4x cam sensor, which just it doesn't work. So we knocked it back to a four and i guess, let's see if it uh cranks moment of truth. Hopefully no more blips, where's the fuel pump.

There you go, hey, that's labeled right, go for it, no crank signal all right, so i'm an idiot. We replaced the belts on here helps a lot if you plug the crank sensor back in so we're gon na go ahead and do that and uh. That would be a good reason why i had no crankshaft yeah you'll get that even on those little jobs here. Go for it! That's yep, nice, all right guys, so we just went over to the drag strip made.

A couple hits in mullet went 120 flat to the 60 foot on the second try. So we're feeling a lot better about that. We're gon na cool down the trance we're gon na test the pump make sure it bumps forward because we got ta race competitively tonight, kevin's over here working on ruby. We got the new crane trigger done.

Uh zach installed the crane trigger on that dialed. In now and we're gon na get this thing tuned up, we have not tested if it does a uh rpm breakup, we're gon na do that here in a minute, george is ready. He's got his lights, going dude, looking good bro! Oh look at that on the engine flip. Can you light them up? Let's see it.

Oh yeah only problem it just kind of wired these up backwards, so my plugin is over there. Oh classic move hey! Oh it's out of power surge brother, heavy load yeah. It's probably gon na be running, hey we're putting the jump box on there. It is nice buddy and it was nailing the wheelie sensor.

We should probably turn it out wheelie sensor. Oh, it was pulling a lot of power on the wheelie sensor. I want to see what that oh yeah, hey this looks great dude exactly it makes it really hard to change the jets. I love it.

You see, i figured if i pointed the tip of the tree into the wind and have the least amount of aerodynamic drag on my race car you'll see no. No! No! No! You don't know you don't know what you're talking about you're done. It's gon na go from this to this. No, you have no idea how aerodynamics work i've been in wind tunnels.
I know exactly what i'm doing you're done, you're done backwards, looks like tom and blaine are ready, hey sam. How do you feel about all this? I think it's just fantastic. Is this not the greatest? Do you like it all right? Well, yeah. I think tai might have scratched ruby earlier.

I'm just saying i saw it happen. He put a tree on the back of her i'm trying to get me a fight that american flag. In the background, this is wonderful, it looks so cool. It looks like a torpedo.

I love it all right. Let's see if ruby uh breaks up, nope didn't even think about it. Let's go we're dialed, oh no, it broke. You already broke.

Oh crap, oh man. The tree already broke on the way over we're gon na have to ratchet, strap it straight up and down. I think what broke the pole or the tree tree the tree itself, the trees integrity right there is perfect. The tree's integrity has been compromised.

Oh man, i thought she'd have more than that 300 tree dude, it's not rated for 40 mile an hour that was 3.8 pounds. I think if we get it to six we'd be in good shape. I think three points a little shy, but this turbo's gon na light really hard yeah. Our tree wasn't moving very much.

We got to bump those numbers up, i mean, but it feels good it bumps good. So and i tried the couple pulls good, really strong. I can't wait. This engine is only good for, like 25 ish pounds of boost with this turbo, the 98.

So we got to be a little cautious of letting it run off on us, because i mean if it gets 25 pounds of boost, that's a ton of power. Throughout that it's okay, we got a box full of rods, we'll just do a little maintenance, yeah yeah that thing's lazy coming up yeah it was, you might need to put a uh what a three-step in there. Well, that's what i did and then it made enough boost and that's when it you felt, i heard it come down. I'm gon na try to tune it up on the run-up, give it some more timing or see what it see.

What we're looking at here. You see what number you got for boost on that one uh yep, that was 5.1 pounds of boost, pretty close want a little more. We want a little more it's interesting, how it kind of just lays over a little bit yeah i felt like it might have pulled too much timing out of it because it was checking out yeah. You.

    Pretty wild that you can do that much damage to a quality rod and then just pull the piston and rod, run a hone in the cylinder, put it back together, and go make passes.
